Session 2 Learning Resources and Technology
Session 2
In this session, I learned about a variety of new teaching strategies and techniques that I can implement in my classroom to engage students and enhance their learning experience. Quizlet is a popular language education app that offers an engaging and creative learning approach for 21st-century learners. It enhances information, vocabulary utilization, knowledge acquisition, and self-education. Quizlet is flexible, customizable, and provides real-time feedback, encouraging active participation. However, quizzes often focus on memory rather than critical thinking, which can be challenging for students with memory issues. Conveners can use various assessment techniques for a more comprehensive assessment of students' learning.
Through the discussion with my group, I also learned about other tools like SLIDO, Google Classroom, Socrative, Canva, H5P which can be used to promote interactive and collaborative learning in a classroom setting. These tools come with a wide range of functions, including the ability to create multimedia material, poll live, and display interactively.
Also in this session, I undertook an OER certification short course which provided me with valuable insights on how to effectively incorporate open educational resources into my teaching practice. OER is a great resource for educators looking to incorporate interactive and engaging content into their lessons. By utilizing OER, educators can access a wide variety of resources that are freely available for use and adaptation in the classroom. This can promote student engagement and enhance the overall learning experience. Through this session, I was able to identify open educational resources like HELM, Microbiology Practical Manual, mbio, and many more. The ideas shared with my group have inspired me to explore new ways of integrating OER into my teaching, such as creating interactive assignments or incorporating videos/audio into my lessons. I look forward to implementing these strategies to create a more interactive learning environment for my students.

Nishal
